Hi, I'm Dennis Lujan, half Taos Tewa Indian, 54. I have lived in Las a Cruces for 12 years. I am retired. I come from the old school of commercial artists. I sought out a four year art scholarship and achieved it from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. I took my GED when I was 16 and was in college two years before my graduating class. I learned every media possible of the time. I have no degree but being gifted and self taught, I have achieved and created great things. Illustrations from the college years turned to the fine art works many years later.
I have been part of the HGTV network family " Decorating with Style" taped in Nashville, Tennessee four times for home design projects that have been broadcasted here in the United States and in parts of Canada. Here in Las Cruces HGTV came to town to tape "That's Clever" again I was on the network. I have several pieces in town and businesses. One that I am very proud of, hangs in public display on the second floor of the Las Cruces Federal Courthouse. My work is in homes and shops around town and the globe. Won numerous awards for my artworks and accolades for my charity work.
I have had numerous one man shows yearly. I was happy to have a one man show at the Brannigan Cultural Center, juried into the Las Cruces Museum of Art as well as the Colorado college in Colorado Springs and the Huntsville Museum of Art. I have had three galleries in every city I have lived in. It is great to show my work with others and give back to the community by various donations to charities I believe in. My artistic style is very broad, straight forward or often conjured up; abstract, realistic, graphic art. Construction, found objects, print media, kitch and low brow works. I am controversial and a risk taker. The media also vary widely, Oils, Graphite, Colored Pencil, Found objects, Computer graphics, Copper tooling to paper maché. Sewing, foundry and embroidery, too. Now that I am a member of the Las Cruces Art Association I get to meet other artists and learn more and sharing what I know to others.
