I was raised in San Diego and moved to Las Cruces to retire in 2005. Born in Belen; New Mexico has always felt like home to me. I love creativity in every form, from rustic crafts to fine arts. I am an artist, but prefer to be called a student of art as I plan to continue learning and growing as long as I live. To me creativity is a necessity to a healthy outlook. Nature shows us this every day.
I have always enjoyed my creations, hanging them around the house as a child. In the custom of my paternal grandmother, Mimi, for many years I gave my creations away as gifts to friends and family. Several years ago someone asked me if I had examples of my work and I had nothing, not one photo and nothing I had kept for myself. Now I keep photos on my phone and I have a personal collection of paintings and quilts and sculptures, some of which are actually signed by me. As part of my creative journey here in Las Cruces I have been a part of a local group of gourd artists, I have been a member of the Society of Decorative Painters, Yucca Pod Chapter, and am a current member of the Las Cruces Ukes. Maybe you’ve heard us play. Joining the Las Cruces Art Association is part of my journey and I am looking forward to meeting new friends and learning about new mediums.
