My approach to the landscape is best understood as a musical metaphor. The musical model is most revealing because in music it is almost impossible to isolate a single theme and explain the entire meaning of a piece. I use drawing, collage, and sculptural constructed explorations to convey certain passages in the landscape.
At times it is the landscape I walk through and observe, other times it is a narrative that I create. Light is used as a liberation from convention, color is deployed in an array of contrasts to convey the surreal story of climate change and the possibility of terrestrial decline. As a activist and artist, the materials I use become my voice and witness. My recent glass pieces are drawn from my visits to Death Valley National Park and local New Mexico sites.
